Funding

Although Down syndrome is the most common cause of intellectual disability, Down Syndrome WA does not receive ongoing government funding.  Despite this we must respond to a growing membership's support needs and also the community's demand for information and assistance.  We fund these through membership fees, grants, sponsorship, fundraising and donations.

With ongoing additional funding we could extend and enhance our family support and community programs to meet needs.  We are currently seeking ongoing funding to enable us to continue the very successful Aim High life skills program for young adults with Down Syndrome.  Funds are needed for an ongoing Aim High Club and to run the Aim High Program for future groups of young people.  Click here to read more about Aim High.

Membership Fees

Membership fees account for a very small proportion of our annual funds and merely cover the mailing out of material to members.

Grants

Grant submissions are a very good way of enabling DSWA to provide more, varied and better supports.  Staff members are always on the look out for the availability of suitable funding opportunities.  While grants are crucial to the Association's ability to continue to provide supports, grant funding is never ongoing.  Grants also only fund specific projects or programs.  It is therefore necessary for the Association to find other ways of funding ongoing costs of keeping the drop in centre and helpline operating and for other specific programs unable to be covered by a grant.

Sponsorship, Fundraising, Donations

Down Syndrome WA is very grateful for large donations received in the past from many different organisations including:  Hartleys, West Australian Newspapers, Charity Direct, Hino Trucks and other sponsors.  These donations have made a huge difference to the Association's financial viability and have helped to fund some wonderful projects in the past.  It is hoped that good relationships already established will continue.

Down Syndrome WA is looking for major sponsors who will work hand in hand with the Association in an ongoing capacity, to guarantee the continuation of our core programs, and/or to fund some key initiatives.  Anyone interested in becoming a major sponsor of the Association please phone 9358 3544 or email the Executive Officer at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
